Process for Portrait Commissions

Charles requires only two or three two-hour sittings, which can take place at his studio or a location of your choosing. The first session consists of a discussion of the basic concept for the portrait, including the pose, setting, clothing, and props. It will also include making drawings and taking photographs. The second session involves a review of compositional ideas generated from the first session, followed by more drawing or an oil sketch, and concluding with more photographs. From this material a final composition is created and submitted for approval. If necessary, a third session is scheduled for revisions. Upon final approval the painting begins and is completed in Charles' studio. You are welcome to view the painting in progress at any time, and adjustments can be made as needed. The portrait is finished when you are happy with it. Charles' working procedure can be modified according to your needs and the specific needs of the project. He can also paint posthumous portraits from photographs that you provide.

A signed agreement and a 30% deposit are requested before the first working session. Another 30% is due when the painting begins. The balance is due upon delivery of the completed portrait.
